As a VR Porn enthusiast, I am always looking for getting the best quality when watching VR Porn. New technologies are coming up left and right and there is a huge amount of headsets to choose from. But for VR Porn, our need are a bit different. That’s why I have been following the development of Valve Index and how good it wold be for watching VR Porn.
TL;DR It’s Great, and if you can afford it, it brings the image quality to a whole new level.
But yea, there are many great things about it, but there are also a few things that suck. And I will go trough them starting with the screen.
The best things about it start with the LCD which offers a combined resolution of 2880×1600, same like HTC Vive Pro and Samsung Odyssey+. But Index goes beyond that. They pixels are more tightly condensed than on OLED panels, meaning it’s more difficult to see the individual pixels in the headset. This greatly reduces the “screen door” effect and gives you a more immersive experience.
Big field of view. Valve Index has 115 degrees of view, more than Oculus Rift (100 degrees) and only less than Pimax. This is great when watching VR Porn, as you don’t have to move you head too much.
And the third thing is the refresh rate of 120Hz with an experimental mode of 144Hz. This does not only mean that everything you will see will be smoother, but it’s also easier on the eyes and you can use the Valve Index for VR Porn for bigger length’s of time without getting tired.
Wearing it is not that bad, it is a bit on the heavy side, but once you put it on, the material is comfortable and super absorbent, so you don’t get so much fog on the lenses.
The Valve Index Controllers “Knuckles” feel pretty good on the hand, secure and intuitive, they are similar because they copy a lot of things from the oculus controllers and improve on them.
Now on to the bad things. The price is pretty high, at the time I am writing this, it’s 999$ for the whole bundle. Headset alone is 499$. It’s not a headset for everyone, if you have the money and you want the best, buy it. Otherwise my recommendation is still Oculus Rift S, because of the price.
It uses sensors. I got spoiled with the Oculus Rift S and now I hate having to setup and calibrate external sensors. And the Steam VR platform does not make things easy for me, it’s always buggy.
But Valve Index for VR Porn is really good, so good in fact, it will make old VR Videos look like crap. Imagine watching on a high definition tv an old low res video. Kinda like that. Hopefully this will force VR Porn studios to deliver consistent 6K VR Porn videos.
